Affiliate Marketing Basics

Learn how your brand can have your own affiliate program.

That's something we can do for you. In short, we recommend using a trusted affiliate network (such as ShareASale, AvantLink, Ascend by Partnerize, Awin, and a few others) to handle all the tracking and affiliate payment services.

Once you join one of the above affiliate networks you will be given some tracking code (or, in some cases a plugin or extension) to place on your site (globally). You will also need to place another code or pixel to "fire" on your confirmation page after an order takes place.

The above code integration allows affiliates to promote your store to their readers and for the network to track them through to the purchase so they can be paid a commission based on the sale.

What affiliate network should I use?

We've worked with all major affiliate networks. Some are easier than others. Some are more affordable than others. All do basically the same thing: serve as a marketplace for advertisers (retailers) and publishers (affiliates) to meet (and work together), track conversions (sales), and receive payment for driving e-commerce activity.

As for a specific recommendation, it depends largely on what your needs (and budget) are - we can help with finding a great fit for your affiliate program.

Will you help us start an affiliate program?

Do you do affiliate consulting or staff training?

Yes! We are willing to take on short-term affiliate consulting projects. This includes the following affiliate activities:

Evaluating and optimizing your existing existing affiliate program for new or missed opportunities.
Training your marketing team to do your own in-house affiliate program management.
Rejuvenating an old or stagnant affiliate program for improved performance, reduced costs, and/or other needs.

Am I locked into a long-term contract?

No. We are selective in the programs we manage and don't take on brands that are not a good fit for our expertise and values. While we may ask, as a courtesy, for a minimum of three or six months to "move the needle," we don't lock anyone into a contract. We feel there is no good reason for either you or us to stay in a relationship that is not working and so either party should be free to go.

Furthermore, we believe affiliate marketing is essentially "relationship marketing." As such, we feel the management side should be relational as well. Bottom line, we believe that you (or us) should be free to part ways at any time and for any reason.
